Once again I had the chance to test one of Torie ( Dark n Twisty Housewife) `s pattern. As you may remember from my last review of the Sagittarius pattern from this lovely designer, Torie is making a zodiac inspired collection, and this time the best sign, my sign, was the muse : Aquarius. Without going all astrology on you there’s a little funny thing about the Aquarius sign, it’s an air sign but his symbol and meaning means water, special uh. Anyway let’s go back to the cowl !
This cowl allowed me to connect with my 12 years old self who loves to make jewelry because there is beads in the pattern. Fun, right!? I bought the beads on Amazon, you have to be patient on there when you shop for pony beads because the first few pages will probably be cheap and primary color only for kid’s projects. The yarn I used is Color Made Easy from Lion Brand in the color huckleberry. This yarn is bulky size 5 like the pattern requires and I have to say that it’s pretty squishy and glides easily on the hook. The hook I used is my Clover 6,5mm, size recommended by the designer. I have to say that I only had to use one skein of Color Made Easy (297 yard) and I had a little leftover when Torie’s pattern asks for 350 yards. After speaking with her we came to the undeniable conclusion that she crochet very loosely and that the mostly amigurumist that I am tend to crochet tightly, either way from her pictures and mine you can see it seems to be pretty much the same size, I love the format of mine and I think that hers looks pretty much the same anyway it’s a cowl you can add or retract rows to your desire.
At the beginning of the pattern Torie gives tips and trick for the beads and the pattern. These tricks are very useful and after I was done testing I even gave her my tip to add to the list and that tip is to use a tapestry needle to caste your beads on, SO much easier. The pattern use simple beginner friendly stitches, the only challenge is to add the bead when you crochet but she explains it so well it won’t be a problem I can guarantee you.
I received great reception and comments for the Sagittarius pattern but I have to say that the response on my different social media for Aquarius was crazy! People loved the beads and went bananas for it, I received so many positive feedback on it! My WIP picture was even featured on the Lion Brand website, such an honor.
