Maker in 20 Questions : Laura (The Cozy Chipmunk)

Maker in 20 Questions : Laura (The Cozy Chipmunk)
This week, the maker we will get to know better is a really good friend of mine, a fellow Wonder Woolmen, Laura also known as The Cozy Chipmunk.
Here are all her links so make sure to go give her some love.
Also if you are reading this before April 12th 2020,  she is offering a free PDF pattern in her Ravelry shop, the pattern is called Here Comes the Bunny , discount applied at checkout.  you can check it out right here.

1- What is your favourite design that you’ve created?
I think that my favourite design is Farmer Ted. He was the first amigurumi I designed where what was in my head and what I produced matched. I also think he is the cutest little guy!

2- Which of your designs did you have to frog the most while designing it?
So far, The Aisling Scarf. Designing garments is sooo different than amigurumi. I’ve made lots of garments in the past, but this was the first of my own design so it has taken a lot of trial and error to make it work. I’m so proud of it though, it was worth the effort!!

3- Which of your designs had a reception that surprised you the most ?
Definitely my Lil Teabag bookmark pattern. Originally I had only offered him as a free pattern on my website, but I had several people asking for a pdf version to purchase. I’ve seen quite a few of them being made, and someone even made a cake that looks like it! I’m so glad that people are enjoying it though!

4- Which of your designs do you consider the best example of your style?
Any of my bunny patterns. My Bunny Valentine Pattern really brings it all together though, with the animal, dress and accessories.

5- Which of your designs do you use the most/is more evidently displayed for amigurumi?
Lil Cuppa for sure! I use her as a pin cushion so she’s always out being used and sits out in my family room all the time. She also makes her way into a lot of my stories on Instagram!

6- Which other maker’s pattern do you want to try?
I really want to try Modesty By Laura‘s La Vie En Rose Shawl. She has been such an inspiration to me to take up knitting and I think all of her designs are gorgeous. I picked up the yarn for the pattern recently and it is on my list as my next knitting project!

7- Makers who inspire you.

Theresa’s Crochet Shop– I absolutely love her patterns, they are all so well written and thought out. I have also had the great honour of testing several of them!
Chrisette Designs– I’ve made several of her patterns and they are so cute! Many of them sit inside a larger piece, like Cactalina, which is a cactus girl that sits in a pot. When you pull her out there is a whole body to her!

8- What is the last thing from another maker that you’ve made ?
I made a llama, designed by Theresa’s Crochet Shop!

9- Do you have any makers that you admire outside of your craft ?
Outside of crochet I also make pottery and absolutely love Old Forge Creations. He makes really neat pieces and is very open with his process so you can learn! I also really enjoy The Snarky Crafter who makes sarcastic cross-stitch pieces. They’re hilarious!

10- Any makers that you think deserves more recognition ?
Landon, aka A Trans Guy Who Likes to Knit is so talented! He does hand dyed yarn and makes polymer clay charms. He is also an awesome knitter!
All of my girls of The Wonder Woolmen also deserve more recognition, their work is all so incredible and each has developed a unique style! When I see one of their designs I know immediately it is theres!

11- What is your favourite yarn ?
I absolutely love Lion Brand Heartland, but I use Impeccable by Loops and Threads the most

12- What is your favourite color palette ?
Blues and Purples

13- What is your favourite thing to make ?
Amigurumi! Animals and inanimate objects!

14- What is your favourite tool ?
A crochet hook! 3.5 mm is my go-to, but I’ll dabble in other sizes if the pattern calls for it :).

15- What is your favourite craft beside crochet/knit ?
My favourite craft other than crocheting is making pottery! I started it a few years ago and absolutely love it. I do mostly wheel thrown pottery, but have dabbled as well in some handbuilding and have quite enjoyed making whimsical fairy houses.

16- What is your favourite movie or tv show that you never tire of ?
There are a couple! Definitely Friends, How I Met Your Mother, Grey’s Anatomy.

17- What is your favourite food?
Enchiladas! Nom nom nom.

18- Who is your favourite fictional character and why ?
Hermione Granger.  She’s book and life smart, a good friend, and always shows kindness to others.

19- Random fact about yourself.
I have double jointed thumbs and can wiggle my ears!

20- You have the floor, any message you want to get out there ?
I would like to just spread the message to be kind! Love one another, show empathy and compassion. In the words of Michelle Obama, ‘when they go low, we go high’.
I hope you had fun getting to know Laura ! She is an amazing person, the kindest there is, and I’m so grateful to be able to call her a friend. Go check her out and give her some love. Here is a little sample of the cuteness you can find on her blog.
